Arriving in London
Day 1 – Walk Around the Neighbourhood
I caught a taxi into London from Heathrow, then went off for a walk around, breathe some of the cool crisp air, after being on a plane for what seemed like forever, it was good to be free, I had intended to walk down through St James’s Park, but it started drizzling, so I headed back up to Piccadilly, it was so crowded, packed with people doing all things Christmas!
It started to get dark very quickly and all the Christmas lights took on a life of their own. They do Christmas lights very well in London. The photo above is the Princes Arcade off Piccadilly, just near Fortnum & Mason. I had hoped to have a look around Fortnum’s but it was too crowded to move, let alone see anything.
I walked up as far as Piccadilly Circus, when the jet lag really started to kick in, so decided to pick up something to eat and walk back towards where I am staying.
Sadly, I’m not staying at the Ritz, but it is nearby! So I think it’s OK to pretend, isn’t it?
The covered footpath on Piccadilly outside the Ritz looked amazing with all the decorations and Christmas lights glowing, and out the front there were Christmas trees either side of the front door. I will go inside to see the main Ritz Christmas Tree but jet lagged up to the eye-balls and looking a bit shabby after the flight, and getting rained on, this was not the time!!
It is forecast to rain tomorrow morning, easing off around midday, so I’m planning a lazy morning before heading out to do a bit of pre-Christmas shopping along Oxford St and Regent St, Liberty’s and maybe across to Knightsbridge. Then as it gets dark hopefully the rain will have stopped completely, and I can see more of the Christmas lights around London.
