Trip Over to Zagreb – Croatia
City of St George and the Dragon
Zagreb is a beautiful city, the history has been well preserved, the people are fantastic to spend time with and it is very easy to get around. Walking for miles through the expertly tended parks and gardens just to see what lies beyond is a treat
Trip Over to Zagreb
90 Minutes in Zagreb
I woke up on our last day in Zagreb, and looked out the window, of course – beautiful blue skies, it was a cool crisp morning. After breakfast I set off, at speed, to re-take all the photos I had taken the previous few days. Read more……………..

They built a new walkway crossing over the Mororway, it will have a roof to protect us from the sun and rain they said.
Turns out it only has a strip of roof on one side, so in the morning the shade is on the motorway below, and in the afternoon the shade is on the other side of the motorway below.
Then they cut holes in the roof, the shape of bugs (!?!), no doubt to let the sun and rain through 🤔
In the middle of the day, the shadow from the roof with the holes in it turns into an X rated phallic display!!
Do you see that, or it it just me??🤣
Should there be a Parental Guidance warning before walking on to the foot bridge???

Easter Sunday in Palermo, not a chocolate Easter egg to be found!! I caught a bus up to Monreale as I had been told the gold mosaics in the duomo were amazing. I think a catholic church service for Easter is not the place an atheist should be! Even if the building was amazing, dating back to the 1100s. I just can`t agree with them asking the poorest people to donate money to the wealthiest organisation in the world, and giving nothing in return, the homeless will still be on the streets tonight!
I then caught a bus to Mondello, apparently the most famous beach in Sicily. Looks lovely but I have never been hounded by so many Indians wanting to sell me a sarong😧!!

After visiting the Duomo di Cefalu, I followed the path behind the Duomo, which leads to the path to walk up Rocca di Cefalu. The public gardens in Taormina on land that was once owned by the same lady who owned Isola Bella in the late 1800s, Lady Florence Trevelyan, a distant relation of Queen Victoria who was exiled from England for having an affair with the future King Edward Vll (why wasn`t he exiled for the same issue??) She moved to Taormina and bought Isola Bella, later marrying the Mayor of Taormina. Together they created the public gardens, which are beautifully looked after to encourage various plants and birds to live there.

I woke up in Palermo and decided that today was the day for a spontaneous adventure to Cefalu ✨️ After breakfast, I booked my train ticket, rushed across town on the 101 bus to Palermo Station, and made my train just in the nick of time - next stop, the beautiful coastal town of Cefalu, here I come! 🌞This is the street I walked down from Cefalu Station into the town, so pretty, and quiet at 10am! Sailed out of the Grand Harbour in Malta under a soft pre-dawn sky, watching Valletta slowly fade behind me. The Virtu Ferry, named John Paul II, was built all the way over in Tasmania—a little slice of home carrying me across the Mediterranean. ✨️
Bound for Pozzallo, Sicily, the journey was fairly smooth, peaceful, and just the right
amount of dramatic (cue moody sunrise lighting and salty sea spray).
There`s something special about watching a place you`ve loved drift into the horizon. Malta, you

Once fit for a Queen, or at least a Princess 👑
Villa Guardamangia, just outside Valletta, was Queen Elizabeth ll`s home when she was still a princess. She and Prince Philip lived here from 1949-1951 while he was stationed in Malta with the Royal Navy ⚓️
Currently being restored to its former glory, expected to be open to the public....eventually! As you can see there is quite a bit of work to be done. I did peek through the letter box, but it looked like there were more wooden doors just inside, so I couldn`t see anything.
It is the only place outside the UK the Queen ever called home - and yes, she described her time here as some of the happiest days of her life 💞

Endless hours of wandering around the streets of Valletta, something interesting around every corner.
1. All the stepped streets that lead from Merchants St are full of coffee shops, bars and restaurants, they are packed every evening.
2. The long steps up St Ursula St, these were a daily event for me as I left the Grand Harbour Hotel.
3. Next to the Grand Masters Palace in Republic Square
4. A typical street in Valletta.
5. Monument of St Paul.

Founded in 1566 by the Knights of St. John, Malta’s capital is a UNESCO World Heritage

counter ever asked for. From Grand Harbour views to narrow laneways, every corner has

The Nymphaeum is the only structure within Fort St Angelo which has never had any
military function. It was built in 1531 for the Grand Master of the Knights of St John as a
relaxation area, in part of a medieval tower.
As the Nymphaeum was built with its back to the sun, it offered constant shade against Malta’s hot summer. Still used today by the Knight Resident of the Order of St John, who I believe lives here. I hope he didn`t mind me sitting here for a while!! ✨️

💫Standing beneath one of the largest unsupported domes in the world at the Mosta
