My First Flight with Qatar Airways
Leaving Sydney late at night, we took off in the dark and flew for nearly 15 hours constantly heading into the dark of night, arriving in Doha at about 4.00am, still in the dark! I notice that some passengers slept well, but as I noticed this, you can safely assume, as usual, I didn’t.
The plane was very comfortable, well, as comfortable as Economy can be for a long flight, and all flights from Australia are long! The seat in the photo above was my home for both the Sydney to Doha leg of the trip and for the Doha to London leg. On the Qatar Airways A380, there is a small section of Economy seats at the back, upstairs behind Business Class, in a 2 – 4 – 2 formation, so I booked a window seat in the back row.
This gave me only one other passenger to disturb every time I get up, and because there is no one behind you, you can leave your seat back without upsetting anyone. But the best thing about this seat is the locker next to the seat under my bag. Great for storing all the bits and pieces you need along the way. Leaving my bag on top of the locker and resting my pillow on it, gave me a good hour or two of comfortable sleep.
We only had a couple of hours in Doha Airport before leaving for London, which was more than enough time to stretch my legs. Most of the main section of the terminal is taken up with this giant yellow bear, strange, but he was drawing a crowd. Then it was time to board again for the 7 hour flight to London, leaving Doha at first light, all corners of the airport were filled with Qatar Airways planes all dressed up in their World Cup livery.
All in all, the flight was very comfortable, I caught up with my movie watching, the bathrooms were kept clean, the flight staff were all lovely, and all the meals were very really good.
