Christmas Day in London

After Lunch

After having a fabulous traditional Christmas lunch, and eating far too much Christmas pudding, a brisk walk was in order.

I very quickly realised my mistake from the day before, sure the atmosphere on the streets is great on Christmas Eve, but for photos, Christmas Day is so much better, the crowds are reduced by about 75%!!

There was very little traffic, so standing in the middle of the road to take photos wasn’t as fraught with danger as it might have been.

No need to fight for a place on the foot path, I could look at the Fortnum & Mason window displays with no one there – the evening before the crowd was ten deep at every window!

Amazingly, the huge crowds and queues of people were at the fast food outlets, in some places the queue was 5o metres or more, clearly these people hadn’t had the enormous lunch I had, there was no way I could have contemplated any more food.

I could have walked for miles, again…..I did get up past Leicester Square and was going to keep going to Covent Garden (of course, I now wish I had) but is was starting to get very cold, so I turned back a slowly ambled ‘home’ taking it all in.

Arriving back at where I am staying, I was greeted with a box of chocolates, I know I said I couldn’t eat another thing – I lied!!
